eNewspapers Coming Soon?

It's been a dream for years. Download a newspaper or
magazine to a flexible screen that folds up - and is
cheap enough to give away with an annual subscription.
Still a pipe-dream? Maybe not, according to an
analysis on our site. Three big publishers are
planning trials this year, and it looks like the digital
paper might just be ready for prime time. Our story
analyzes the trend - the time could finally be right.
But can you swat a fly with them? That, at least,
is still unclear.

How Good is Google's New Browser Sync?

Here's the problem. You have a bunch of computers at
home, maybe a few more at the office. You travel.
You make extensive use of bookmarking, but your
bookmarks are never where you want them. Enter
Google's Browser Sync. We put it to the test to see
how well it worked. We were impressed, to a point.
The sync process isn't perfect. But it is a decent
answer to the problem. Check out our preview for
more details.

Has Microsoft Installed Spyware on Your PC?

Have you opted into the "Genuine Advantage" anti
piracy program? Wonder what it is? Do you think
Microsoft is tracking all sorts of stuff about you?
Well it turns out that Microsoft is now "phoning home"
daily, from your validated PC to its servers. But is
there anything more than a "hi, hello" going on?
Is Microsoft collecting user data and storing it?
Our Microsoft Watcher took a close look at the hype
and the reality, answering the question of whether
it's really spyware or not. Her story has the details.

Vista Gotcha - Flash Tech Could Be Problematic

It's called "ReadyBoost" and "ReadyDrive", two
technologies designed to use flash memory on USB Keys
and new hybrid drives to help speed up your machine.
This faster cache memory will take the place of some
slower system caches, but what happens if you pull the
plug? Could your system become unstable? Could you
lose data? Our storage expert explores what it all
means - and whether you need to worry or not.

Dvorak's Take on Display Trends

We sent John C. Dvorak to the Society for Information
Display (SID) Show last week, to see what was up with
LCDs, Plasmas and more. He came back with a wealth of
knowledge, and some revealing pictures. Check out his
photo-essay for details on what he saw - and more
important, what he thought.

Can You Get a US-Made PC

It's been commonly accepted among geeks that even though
US brands sell PCs, most of the parts and assembly
happens overseas. But is that really true? To find
out, we sent our expert reporter off to figure out
whether the US-made PC was a myth or reality. What
did she find? Dell, Gateway and others do build
computers in the US - not for patriotic reasons, but
because its good business sense. But parts are still
parts, and many of them still come from Asia. Read
our story for more details.

World Cup Internet Update - US Need Not Apply

Will the world cup bring down the US internet?
Could hordes of streaming fans cause massive corporate
slow-downs as they watch games at work? Not likely,
say experts. It'll be more like the Olympics, than
March Madness. Want to prove the experts wrong?
Read our story, and then check out the links we've
uncovered for where you can watch the games live
- at work - all day long. Maybe this will be the
year that sports kills the 'net after all!

Intel Rolls Out Speedy New Transistor Design

Why is Intel excited about this transistor? Because it'll
let them keep pace with Moore's Law, pack more on a chip,
and save power. The new "tri-gate" transistor works in
three dimensions, and uses strained silicon for good effect
- it also cuts down on leakage. What else makes this
breakthrough so interesting? Check out our story for
details, but this could be the next step in faster and
cooler CPUs.
